Do you have a teen is studying Year 12 English in 2022 or 2023? Do you know what pairs of texts they’re studying?
The comparative essay is one of the more important pieces our teens have to master because they have to complete a SAC (school assessed coursework, ie. a test) and this is also 1 of the 3 essays they will need to write in the end of year exam.
So, what are the pairs?
Every year, VCAA provides 8 pairs of texts that schools can choose from to teach their Year 12 students. Students must study 1 pair of texts.
Here are the pairs for Year 12 students in 2022 and 2023:

The Hate Race (memoir) and Charlie’s Country (film)

The Queen (film) and Ransom (novel)

Things We Didn’t See Coming (novel) and Never Let Me Go (novel)

Reckoning (memoir) and Brooklyn (novel)

The Crucible (play) and The Dressmaker (novel)

Photograph 51 (play) and My Brilliant Career (novel)

The 7 Stages of Grieving (play) and The Longest Memory (novel)

I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up For Education and Was Shot by the Taliban (memoir) and Pride (film)
